COMMENT [776]

This notion that says taste is “acquired” is rubbish because nature actually produces some of the most sweet things in existence and things that are, in some cases, alot sweeter and richer in taste than alot of the things some people eat which are “perceived” to be processed and “refined”. So the fact that we naturally have the ability to taste things beyond a certainly less-than-appealing and not-so-enjoyable point, proves that we were actually meant to enjoy tasty things, and also the fact that there are tasty things in nature that form naturally, shows once more, that this foolishness that says edible things should be boring and bland to be “nourishing” or “healthy”, is also nonsense. The real joke here is that it’s not the fact that the foods are processed or “not healthy” or has too much sugar that is the issue, it’s actually excessive and unbalanced food consumption that is contributing to alot of health issues.

  1. Taste is acquired. Things that you grew up eating and love are not the same things that i grew up eating and loved. People in Russia, China, India, everywhere… like different things that when you try them you will not like. It’s acquired because since childhood that is your food, your culture, your heritage, your tastes. Someone from somewhere else would not agree. And as an adult you can choose to learn to like something from another culture or not, it’s your choice. But in choosing, you are deciding if you will acquire (gain) a new taste for your palate.

    1. Hhmmm i know the point you are making and it is a very good one. But when isw taste is not aquired, it’s from the perspective that people are just smart, they just like what tastes better than something else — they just like things that tastes good. That’s not “aquired”, that’s just natural LOL

      1. Yes, all humans like certain things. but not all humans can eat the same things. Assume everyone likes sweet, that’s not acquired that’s natural. But what about…. fried and battered fish-heads. It is a delicacy because of the gills in some areas of the world, but the gills (having tried it) taste bitter and have the texture of pencil erasers that pop in your mouth. It is not something that tastes good even just to suck on without biting it. Yet, in that area of the world, everyone loves it and it’s considered a rare delicacy. Or some people like VERY hot food, and they eat it on a daily basis. Someone else comes in and tries something they consider “mild” and want to stick their face into the nearest lake to get the hot out. it is an acquired taste to like such hot things, which everyone in that area likes because it has been acquired since childhood.

        1. you make a great point; people will not always like the same foods, but from a basic fundamental standpoint regarding taste, most people generally like things that are seasoned, spiced, flavored, marinated etc over the versions of the foods that they like that are not flavored or as tasty, that’s just natural it’s not “aquired” lol

          1. I did not argue that people do not like seasoned foods. I stated that the particular seasoning, the particular way it is cooked. even the particular item itself are where the variable of taste comes in. You have either acquired it or you haven’t.

            1. Yeah knew that sweetheart, and i was basically saying that, yes, people do have their particularities and preferences but it stilll boils down to the fact that they like things that they think tastes better than other things, so i don’t think that it’s a case of aquired it or not, but one that they either like something or they don’t.

              1. Humans have tastebuds and can choose to use them however they deem fit. The can acquire new tastes or stick with what they already know. It’s a choice. But the biology is mostly the same as everyone tastes foods with their tongues, except those that can’t.

                1. Absolutely correct, people can aquire or discover new things that taste good to them, but the ability for people to just have a general affenity for things that are “tasty” or more “flavourful”, is not “aquired” it’s just natural lol
